About Us
We are a group of four masters students based in the Department of Mechnical & Aerospace Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. Currently in the fifth year of our respective programmes, we are required to undertake a full-time group project. This is being undertaken as part of an ERASMUS exchange programme at Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, where we will work in the Department of Signals & Systems. In addition, the project will be completed in collaboration with Volvo Cars Corporation.
Our Project
The aim of the project is to validate the use of a simulation software package, Siemens Process Designer and Process Simulate, to create a simulation-based automotive manufacturing facility controlled by a virtual Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). Traditionally, a simulation is connected to an external PLC in order to test the control program in a virtual environment. It is hoped that demonstrating the use of a single platform can reduce difficulties encountered with this manual connection and streamline the process of Virtual Commissioning.
