Quality Stand-Down Day

This week saw a strong focus on Project Management for the team. With a deadline for the Project Interim Report approaching, and a Quality Stand-Down Day scheduled for Tuesday, the technical aspects of the project were this week less dominant.

The Quality Stand-Down Day was a day where the regular day-to-day tasks of the project were set aside and a focus set on the quality of the project management. One of the priorities for the day was to review all of the project management tools in use, determining their value and context within the scope of the project. A final branding encompassing all of the tools was established, based on a three-dimensional approach as shown in the Venn Diagram. Toolboxes were assigned to each dimension--either Technical, Risk or Schedule--with overlapping tasks assigned accordingly. This provded a neater and more visual representation of the strategy that the group has been using throughout the project. A Schedule and set of Standard Operating Practices have also been created to accompany this diagram completing a package of documents for consistency across the group.

The rest of the week saw a plan established for the Interim Report. Sections were divided amongst the group based on experience and expertise. As it stands, a first draft is complete and review of the document will continue early next week for submission before the week-end. The team are very proud of their progress so far and really want to portray this hard work in the report.

Given the focus on Project Management this week, little technical work was completed and so progress on the Gantt Chart was only up by 2% taking the project total to 43%. This puts the project slightly behind schedule although the team are optimistic that this figure can be improved rapidly on completion of the PLC implementation. Goal for next week: Big progress in PLC!
